[Tools] XmlSerializerPreCompiler and XmlPreCompiler
Now in frequent use in my dev environment, I can highly recommend Matthew Nolton's XmlPreCompiler, a GUI front-end to Chris Sells' command-line tool, XmlSerializerPreCompiler. These are very handy when you need to vaidate that some assembly can be serialized. Unfortunately, it appears that I have to drop the XmlPreCompiler.exe and XmlPreCompiler.exe.config directly into the directory where the assemblies I am testing (and their dependencies) exist; I apparently cannot just drop XmlPreCompiler into my \Bin directory or somewhere on my path. If I do that, XmlPreCompiler does not seem to find the assembly's dependencies. The tool still makes my "must have" list.

[Tools] A New XML Editor: XML Marker
XML Marker is a nice new free XML editor. Currently, it has very limited support for DTD and none for XML Schema. I hope Symbol Click will address that weakness very soon. XML Marker is lightweight and fun to use for simple tasks -- and the price is right!

[WebServices] ASN.1 and Fast Web Services
Abstract Syntax Notation One (ASN.1) offers some significant capabilities for producing Fast Web Services. Other interesting links on ASN.1 include What ASN.1 can offer to XML, the ASN.1 Homepage, and the ASN.1 Consortium. If you need more information than those, see this Google search.

[XML] XMLPatterns.com
I recently came across an oustanding reference site on design patterns for creating good XML. The site is XMLPatterns.com. The content has already been very helpful to me and I recommend this as a useful reference link.

[Languages] The Tao of Xen
Now, this is really interesting. It appears that Microsoft, via Microsoft Research, is working on another new language, currently titled “Xen” (maybe X# some day?). Microsoft Expands .Net With Xen, an article in ExtremeTech, gives a summary of the idea and cites Microsoft Research Looks to Extend C#, a Microsoft Watch article that adds a little more detail. It appears that the definitive exposition at this moment is Erik Meijer's Programming with Circles, Triangles and Rectangles.

Multicentrix: An Enterprise Information Framework
I am exploring a new enterprise information management tool, Multicentrix, which is conceived by one of its designers as "a multidimensional virtual mindmap represented by lists and XML documents." It is an interesting approach and worth examining. In a previous incarnation, Multicentrix was known as InfoMap but has evolved substantially from that point of origin. Multicentric Technology Sdn Bhd, the company responsibile for Multicentrix, has kindly made its product available to members of the Minciu Sodas Laboratory, which is "an open laboratory for serving and organizing independent thinkers."
